the burning man
cw: image of fire following third stanza, death
the man was burning
they’d been told fight fire with fire
so they drew their guns
with black guns ablaze
pointed towards the black soot haze
just one of those days
flames rising on high
while cops & clergy stood by
not extinguishing
but maybe a gun
could become a water gun
if someone would care
if someone was there
to say enough is enough
where is the water
a child is on fire
in the rubble far away
in need of quenching
where is the water
for the man & for the child
worlds away in flames
how much has to burn
before relief is granted
before they can live
how many have yearned
for peace & safety daily
getting bombs not food
& who will burn next
with guns pointed at their corpse
to Free Palestine?
